About

There’s no denying it. Rank and file workers in the government sector, including employees in the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is suffering from the relentless increases in the prices of oil, transportation and other basic necessities.

Even the much ballyhooed ‘advance’ in the implementation if the 3rd tranche of the Salary Standardization Law in June; offers little, if not nothing, to help tide our families through this very hard times.

Thus, public sector workers couldn’t just stand idly by and do nothing to forward our right to substantial and living wage. Article XIII of the Philippine Constitution explicitly says that the State shall ensure the Filipino worker’s right to “humane conditions of work and a living wage.”

But what is happening right now is the exact opposite. The monthly salary of the lowest paid government worker today is Php7,575 – an amount that is far below the government’s estimated cost of living which is Php28,710 per month.  Even with the full implementation of SSL3, the law passed in 2009 which provides for a meager and staggered adjustment until 2012, the minimum pay will still only amount to Php9,000.

It is in this regard that we are inviting you to join us in the formation of COMELEC Wage Fight Alliance. Through thisAlliance we hope to enjoin our ranks with workers in the public sector to forward our legitimate right for a substantial wage increase.

It is hoped that we gather likeminded rank and file employees in the Commission, and even some quarters of the Management, to the COMELEC Wage Fight Alliance to effectively forward our cause.
